I posted prev about how I thought my chicken had paratyphoid. Well brought her 2 someone on monday who has a lot of knowledge about chickens. He said she looked very healthy, eyes clear, no mites, not swollen in vent area. It all started about 3 weeks ago when I noticed she was walking off balance, hence the paratyphoid diagnosis. Well my mom did some research & found a lot of her symptoms lead to worms. Since this sat she's been listless, keeping to herself, tail down. She eats on her own but been forcing her to drink. On wed I went & got her the ivermectin drench, did that for 24 hrs & now giving her an antibiotic in her water. Sorry can't remember the name, but its a yellow powder. I put her in outside pen since its 70 here. At nite I bring her in & she does go for the food, very slowly, on her own. I'm just wondering if its too late, or does anyone think she mite come thru. She'll only be a year old in july & I'm soooo upset. She's the best. She follows me like a dog around the yard & I just adore her. If anyone can help I thank u sooo much. From one animal lover to all the others, thanks for any help!!!

I'm so sorry your sweetheart is having a rough time! I wish I had some good advice for you but I don't have that much experience.
What I can offer though is a bump to your post and maybe someone in the know will see it and be able to help you. Good luck!

I wouldve recommended using wazine first for worming, it only takes care of roundworms. Using ivermectin first wouldve killed ALL kinds of worms in her system and could possibly overload her innards with dead worms and possibly turn toxic and kill her. Time will tell, good luck.

Thank you both for replying!!! Dawg, since I'm using the antibiotic after giving her the drench, won't that help with any after problems with the worms? Just wondering. Also, do u have some experience with worms? If so do her symptoms sound as tho that's what she has? Again thanks for any & all information!!!

She saw a vet today & he was thinking its a vitamin deficiency & gave her shots of calcium, B12, B complex, steroids & the antibiotic Tylosin. That was this afternoon & after about 6 hrs I noticed she was moving her head. Now she's very slowly eating on her own, which she hasn't done in about a week. She's definately getting better with every hour that passes. So please keep that in mind if your bird is sick. It could be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency. Will find out more when I speak to him again tomorrw.
