A, B, C class seramas?

I agree with you tommyVT, but to much helping causes weakness, if a chick can't hatch it self there is a weakness there and the vitality is in question no matter what size it is. weakness let in sickens and other problems.

Thanks for your input.

Helping does cause weakness I agree with you on that. I have done that a couple times with the eggs from the mother hen because I couldn't bare watching it "die" inside an egg but they don't seem to make it far throughout the week though; nevertheless, it depends on what time of year too [The warmth does help a lot].

: )

could hear them peeping in the shell as they grew too big to grow but were still not ready to hatch

I don't have seramas, but it seems to make sense that using a small cock (A) to a somewhat larger (B) hen would produce large enough eggs for the chicks to develop, but still retain the genetic makeup of small size?

I normally help after 5 hours continuous peeping or when I hear the peeps getting weaker. If I hadn't helped with my last hatch I would have only gotten a 10% hatch rate. Since I helped I got a 40%. Normally I don't help that many, but I had had huge problems with that incubation. I don't know why people don't help them. It does occasionally produce weak chicks, but I have only had 1 chick ever show any signs of weakness. They might produce weak chicks if bread, but why breed them? There are plenty of people that just want them as pets.

I've helped in the past, but most that get helped are weak, don't survive long, would you sell a bird for a pet that will only live a year or less. I will not breed helped birds no matter what size. Selling helped birds is wrong no matter what price you get, do you tell the person you sell to that they need to help with hatch and why? Because your bird are not strong to do it for themselves.

I have 2 eggs under a broody and 8 in the incubator all developing nicely! Hopefully atleast a few hatch

When you hatch will greatly influence the size of a bird. Hatch too early and birds get big. Hatch too late and birds get small. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I have Serama eggs due to hatch on Easter Sunday!
