A few nights ago,a badger attacked my 6 chickens. It ate 5 of them:( and would have eaten the last one, too, but it bumped the door closed on the last one.We caught it in a leg trap and shot it,but we think that there is more than one badger. The last chicken is very lonely.Other than buying another chicken, can you think of anything to ease her lonelyness?

Try giving her a stuffed animal to play with. So sorry. How did the badger get your chickens though?

The badger dug a hole under the coop and broke through the chicken wire. I will try giving her a stuffed animal like you said.

Please try to add some welded wire fence over that chicken wire or some other animal will very easily eat your last chicken. Try to take her in the house or some place secure until you can change that chicken wire for some real welded wire.

Chicken wire is no good for housing birds.

It dug under?
I had a groundhog who used to use the polebarn I turned into a coop as a home dig under my wire before I got the trenches dug to bury wire. Now, instead of burying wire to stop diggers I'm going a little more towards active deterence. I filled the trenches with broken glass and bricks mixed in the dirt, and I'm going to cover the lot with pavers. If they get through that, they won't have much left to go after the chickens with.

Yesterday I gave Goldy(the Gold Link chicken)a stuffed animal. It worked really good. She stopped making her lonely noises. Thanks for that idea.
