@Ted_Harrell I too lost a chicken to a visiting dog. It was a little bantam that never came out of the bantam garden.... except it did for the first, wrong and last time, right at the moment the dog was passing by. Gone before I could get to the dog. My own dogs, including my German Shepherd, just think they are one of the pack, but I get that they would probably chase someone else's pets if they didn't know what they were. All part of life's rich tapestry I suppose. Have never heard of a Swedish Flower Hen! How wonderful it sounds though. Will look it up.Yep, I recently lost my two favorites to a stupid dog, that wasn't hungry, he just wanted a couple of rag dolls to play with. He snapped both their necks and left hem in the neighbors yard so I could see them. I know what you mean about running the gamut of emotions. I have 8 Swedish flower hens in the incubator and they are due to hatch this weekend. That should help me forget my poor Australorp and Red sex link. What is the weather like there. We are 70 degrees and the leaves are changing here...
The weather has turned cold and dry the last few days, but I prefer that to the constant rain we've been having recently, which I find really depressing. As do the chickens. Our weather is so changeable. Last Friday I went out in warm autumn sunshine and returned in the rain, which then went on relentlessly for 36 hours. We had some American house-sitters a few years back and when we went out for the day to the Welsh coast in T-shirts, I insisted they took light sweaters, boots, umbrellas, light raincoats and heavy coats. They laughed..... And then proceeded to use it all during the course of that one day.
