Hey ya'll! I'm in Oklahoma City, and live on 10 acres. We've only lived here a few months, but we are really gung ho about growing our own food. My dad has hatched some chicks for me. They actually hatched yesterday, there are 35 and 4 more eggs that haven't hatched yet. So I'm expecting about 35 chickens. My dad is going to brood them for me, so I will get them in about 3weeks. I plan on eating the roosters and keeping the hens for eggs. There is a shed out here, will be using for a coop, and I am planning on letting them free range. The entire 10 acres is fenced in. I have never had chickens before, and I'm nervous that I may be taking on too much. But I'm also really excited to get my chickie babies! I'm sure ill have a lot of questions, and I'm so glad I found this site!

Thank you for the links, I appreciate it. My chicks will be coming from Kansas, valley center to be exact. I wasn't really planning at first to have that many, but my parents offered to hatch some chicks for me and of course I agreed. They usually hatch quail eggs, and have never done chicken eggs before, so they just filled the incubater which holds 42 eggs. They didn't realize they would aalmost all hatch. Lol!
