Howdy Nesties!
My flock and I live in Cheyenne WY.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Shhhh... I had chickens years ago before urban flocks were legal! But, since I also ran a home daycare, the health inspecter outted me. So they flew over the fence to my neighbor's house.
This time around its legal! Alas, the daycare went away with the quarantine and my grand has joined 4-H Poultry Showmanship. We started mid-February, added more the following week, added more the following month, chicken math right? And you know... any excuse to get more chickens!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
9 lovley pullets and a suspicious roo.

(3) What breeds do you have?
A Buff Orpington, a Cuckoo Marans, a Spotted Sussex, a Salmon Favorelles, 2 French Black Marans and 4 Americaunas.
My fav is the Salmon Favorelles named Fancy, my grand likes the Cuckoo Marans, Zadie.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Whats not to love? The comedies, the routines, the sounds, the eggs, the smell of the chicken herb garden.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Being grand, I'm about to be extra grand, its a boy! Machine embroidery, puppy raising and cats, all the cats.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. A
fter 16 years, the daycare closed and I began raising mini-Golden Retrievers. This job really consumes most of my days. But I've had 7 of my puppies go on to become diabetic scent and alert service dogs. It feeds my soul knowing my work is improving and saving lives.
Married 36 years, we have 4 adult children and 4&3/4 grandbabies!
I've recently added 2 siberian cats to our menagerie.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I was researching how to determine Cockeral vs. Pullet and ended up landing in the backyard with you folks!

So glad you decided to join us. Nice variety of breeds you keep, will make for a colorful chicken yard for sure! Adorable photo, 💖 thanks for sharing!

Make yourself at home here!
We're hoping for colorful eggs. But we are really loving the light brown layers, who began laying just last week. Hoping for a greenish layer amonst the blue ameraucana layers.
Thank you, when you've got cute chicks, you gotta take pix!
I still have the ever popular question cockeral vs pullet, but I'm afraid we pretty much know...:( If he's a Roo, he needs to go.
