Watch out LD, here is a little up and coming cockerel who wants to duke it out for the Giant Comb Competition.

Check out my 9 week old Blue Andalusian cockerel. He still needs a name.

I guess when you live with the Giant Rooster, and are a small breed, you have to compensate in other ways.

He is a little crowing MACHINE. And not friendly at all. He actually screamed at me today when I grabbed the other cockerel. Since my Jersey Giant roo is sooooo lazy with the girls, I am sort of glad to see a cockerel who is already calling them about danger (er...even if it is me) and trying to protect them from danger (er...me again). He did not come after me, but was staying close and pacing and the screaming and honking when I got extra "scary" was impressive.

I was kind of thinkong of Moe for Mohawk too! Great minds think alike!

Part of the reason he is not friendly is that this batch was a bad timing for me. They were a month early and I wasn't really ready for them. Then I got sick and the weather has been bad, and two different family members have come out to visit.....no time for pen building!

I did NOT spend much time at all with them and it shows. Other than one of the girls who is super friendly. Go figure! I think the others will be about as tame as my white leghorns and buttercups eventually. They will run up for treats but don't want me handling them. Good enough for me. I am hoping to have their new outdoor pen ready in about a week. They are still in the brooder shed, which is decent sized but they are definitely needing to be out.

I'll keep big afro head here living in fear of me for now. The last evil rooster got the axe, so hopefully he will stay on my good (dull) side. I'd love a rooster who actually took are of his girls versus keeping them way from food and stepping on them

He looks just like the roo from a kids' video we used to have. The song was "Rock-a-doodle-doo." I'd call him Rockadoodle.

Either that or Napolean (small man syndrome! Lol!)
