Most of you know I bought Mr. Jesse's entire flock of "C1 Wade Jeane" Black Copper Marans. Many of you have chicks from this line so I thought I would post a little brief history of how they came to be and how they arrived in this country.
Seems Mr. Jesse knows Wade and Kelvin - I just hung up the phone with him - such a dear, sweet man and here is his story:
Seems Wade and Kelvin had a pilot friend who "allegedly" flew the eggs in from France and a customs inspector friend who "allegedly" overlooked the eggs and let them into the country. (That part of the story can't be verified by Mr. Jesse)
Wade and Kelvin hatched the eggs.
Time passes and Wade and Kelvin must get rid of the birds. Kelvin (who lives across the street from Wade) gave his whole flock of hens to Mr. Jesse - about 20 hens - no roos.
Mr. Jesse needed some roos so he got his first one from his friend Melvin who got it from a man in LaGrange, GA (Mr. Jesse is looking up his name and will call me back). The man in LaGrange got the roo directly from Wade personally. Well Mr. Jesse had 20 hens so he needed another roo. He went to the LaGrange man directly and asked to buy a roo. Which he did, for $35. Still having some unfertile eggs, 20 hens and only 2 roos, Mr. Jesse decided he needed another roo. He approached the man in LaGrange who by now has gone up considerably in price so he sells Mr. Jesse another of Wade's roos for $100. Thus Mr. Jesse had 20 hens and 3 roos that came directly (and indirectly) from Wade/Kelvin. His additional roos, now my roos, were hatched from chicks and raised by Mr. Jesse - thus sons of the originals.
Thus, my flock of French-line, feathered leg, Black Copper Marans came from the eggs that came from France.
So - for all who have BCM chicks that are being called C1 or Wade/Kelvin Jeane birds - NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY.
p.s. - Mr. Jesse never posted in his original threads any info such as C1 or even that they came from Wade and Kelvin Jeane - all of that information came out much later.

Per Amazondoc's always helpful "clarifications" I have corrected the spelling of Wade's brother's name. His name is KELVIN.
