A chick-a-boom 🐄

Thank you for the welcomeā¤ļøšŸ„

Silkies are seriously beautiful to me, I just hatched some for the first time ever. Tho, I found them a bit delicate in the early days since some were lethargic.

I think that the next time I will be getting silkies I will get already hatched, 5 days old, grow them by myself and then collect my own silkie eggs to hatch them.

From 10 silkie eggs, 5 eggs hatched (from the rest 5, 3 were unfertilised, 1 got killed by other hatched chick by pinching the egg too early and yolk went out and 1 died after peeping). From 5 hatched, 2 are well, 1 passed away and 2 more are in my living room on rehabilitation with cat plushie toy xD - one of them has 6 toes on one leg).

Still even with this odd experience, I would hatch them again. 🐄🐣
Gosh sorry about your troubles and losses. You’ll have better luck next time! Look how much you learned already!

6 toes is something most silkie breeders will see now and then and happens to even the exhibition breeders. It is a dominate trait so if you breed that one, you’ll get more. If you want to show your birds ever, you wouldn’t want to breed that one. Still beautiful birds though no matter how many toes. 😊
