Hello Everyone!
I’m a teacher (and brand new on here). I’ve been reading and re-reading several of your posts looking for the answer to my problem...my class and I are on day 17 of incubating 30 Muscovy duck eggs. All looks to be going well except for one egg that is faaaaar more developed than the rest. It’s a bit smaller than the rest and has a darker shell. When candled, it just looks ‘dark’ inside as opposed to the ‘half clear/half dark’ of the Muscovy eggs. Sooo, my question is, is there a way to tell for SURE, because I know if it’s a chicken (which I’ve hatched before) it will have to go into lockdown tomorrow. Please help!! And sorry for the long post....teachers are always wordy. Lol!!

An incubator set up as a hatcher is a good idea.

For reference, if you do need to hatch as well as incubate(staggered hatching), you can take out a rail and set the egg in the space where the rail was. After the first staggered hatch is finished, you can put the rail back in.

Just letting you know that it WAS in fact a chicken. I decided to take a chance and move it into a Hatcher on Day 20 and on Day 22, ‘Oreo’ was born. The Muscovies are just coming to the end of Day 30...
