I would have delt with the situation in the same way, good call IMHO. Around here we see more coons with distemper ( which I had the personal disprivliage of dealing with an very adanced sow and a semi healthy kit who was trying to protect his delirious mom for about a week. Rabies seems to cycle through every couple years and shows up mainly in the skunks and generally we only worry about parvo in dogs mainly new born or young pups, it lives in the ground and they go down hill very quick and die if it's not caught and treated correctly. Personally I would take the risk and get the animal tested for my own peice of mind and so I knew if should watch for other infected animals, but that is your call, and I would also make sure to use the bleach suggestion that cheifs wife had, very good bit of advice.
