A couple of hens need some help!!! (Broken leg and hypothermia)

Gave her another aspirin and a bunch of yogurt and water. Wondering when she will be ok to go outside in a dog crate with a feeder and water-er and be able to take care of herself. So far I've had to syringe everything into her.

It's hard to say, especially since she is not eating or drinking. Do you know how she was injured? It's possible that she has other injuries internally or to her head. Have you thought about splinting the broken leg? They can take 4-5 weeks to heal, I think. I would want to get her back outside too, but it doesn't sound like she can go without eating on her own. Here is a good link on splinting, and a recent BYCer used a finger splint from the drugstore as a splint for a leg: http://www.lbah.com/word/fractured-bird-leg/

We have no idea how she was injured. We have a puppy who will chase the chickens, but has never hurt them. Plus, it has been really cold (-1 right now) so he is inside most of the time.

We have thought about splinting the leg. We're not sure how though, because it feels like it is broken on the upper part (where the drumstick is, for back of a better term, LOL)

My mom said we would give her 2 or 3 more days, see how she's doing, and go from there. But we also need thing about the ethical part. She lays in her own poop, so I'm worried about her getting pasty butt. I have to syringe her all her food and water. Well, yogurt and water. We don't know what else might be injured. I just don't know if we should just put her down or keep dragging her along. I hate to put her down, but I hate to have her suffer. And it is getting harder for me to to get enough 'food' and water in her, because she fights me quite a bit sometimes. I also have to do school, etc. I just don't know
