I have lost count of how many times I have ended up online googling to try and find useful information on one of two things:
1: How to treat a specific condition (including personal experiences of what's worked for others when there isn't any/much information from veterinary or reputable avian sources
2: Whether certain medication/s - usually antibiotics or pain relief, sometimes herbs/vitamins are firstly safe to give my ducks, secondly, effective, and finally, when I do find out that a certain medicine I might have on hand seems to be ok to give, and effective, it often seems to be next to impossible to find any information on dose!
So I was wondering whether other people might find it useful if there were a couple of sticky threads on ways to treat specific conditions, and also on medications that can be used?
Ideally, with a few rules, to make sure everyone can easily find any posts on their specific disease/injury/condition/bird or drug...
For example, a sticky where people can post their own personal 'case studies' of birds they have treated for specific conditions, including what treatments they used (and why) any side effects, or things they would do differently next time, the outcome, and feedback they may have later had from vets or other poultry people on what they did, and why they think it worked in their situation.
And a second thread on medications that people have used, and the results.
Ideally posts would avoid using brand names and be specific about dose, and strength ie give the generic drug name, the strength of a liquid, or size (mg) of a pill or capsule, how many mg per kg, or how many mg they gave their bird and their birds estimated weight...
Or threads about types of drugs, ie a pain relief thread, sedation/relax/stress medication thread, etc. where people can post anything they have tried with as much specific and generic dose info as possible and their outcome...
Would anyone else find this useful? I do have a number of publications on disease and medications, but some things are not in one, but are in another (ie ibuprofen) and it would be good to read people's actual real life experiences...
