You have all convinced me to keep them locked up at night and take the food and water out of their house. I will sleep better knowing they are safer. I have become very attached to the ducks!
The water issue and wet hay constantly was driving me nuts anyway. I just didn't want them going hungry, thirsty or getting too cold. Hopefully they will just eat enough before bedtime to last them.
I have 2 latches on the door to their house. Not sure what you would call them. They are a straight pin with a loop of metal that attaches over the other end after you slide it through the latch hole. They can be difficult for me to open, so hopefully will deter a raccoon. There is a slide bolt latch on the door to the run, but I am hoping a raccoon doesn't get in that way anyways, or my chickens would be in danger first.
Thanks for all the advice!!
