I have dreamed about having BCM's since i was a kid.
My parents only kept Leghorns and RIR's.

And at this point, I have given up.
I have spent over a year searching desperately for BCM's, and have had about as much luck as a Drunken Monkey trying to cross a river on a thin branch!
Is there ANYONE who is located in Alaska who has BCM's? And would NOT mind parting with a hen or two?
I have a 1 year old hen, and a Roo (got them a bit over a week ago) but from what I was told, she has only laid 1 egg in a 6 month period!

I was SO so desperate to get them though, I really don't care.
But at this rate, I will end up with 2 BCM's in the next 2 years, and I will have to hatch one egg at a time!

And with the luck I've had, I am going to end up with Roo's!

In turn, a friend is hatching pure Pendesencas for me.
I would be willing to swap.
I also have the Golden 300 Hybrid Laying Ducks, which I paid a great deal for as chicks.
They are still young, and will start laying in about 2 months. They produce from 240-260 eggs a year! (EACH!)

Or I will pay whatever you ask (within reason) LoL. And I promise that your bird will be spoiled rotten.

We have a beautiful and spacious coop, and you can come visit any time.

Please. Please, is there anyone out there who has an extra hen? Even an older one. As long as she is still laying.
I'm DESPERATE.!!!!

Ashia,

congratulations on your new duo from Terrisa. I have BCM's here but as of right now I'm not parting with anyone. I could hatch some eggs out for you
as soon as my girls start laying again or sell you some eggs. I have a brooder FULL of babies, but all the hens will be staying here at this point in time. This fall we might part
with some girls that will be a year old in June, that hasn't been decided yet. Right now I seem to be the only one with eggs, I just sent Tori at Sterling Meadows a dozen and
that hatch is looking pretty good! They aren't the easiest breed to incubate so if you go that route we would all be happy to give you our two cents.

By the way, come join us in our own little "Alaskan Thread"......

Give your hen a nest full of fake eggs and see if you can get her to go broody. If she goes broody and sets hard, you can order some eggs. That is probably your best bet. Good luck, and you can contact Silver Sterling Hatchery. I little birdie told me she is currently incubating a big ol' batch of CBM eggs from very good lines. Plus she has a hen that is near perfect and lays dark eggs... You might want to read up on the hatching of dark marans eggs though, before you go that route. There is a definite learning curve when it comes to those, at least for most people. Good luck no matter which way you go with it. It is worth the hassle after you have your flock up and running.

MissDeb. Thank you. I ADORE them!

And OMG, if you could hatch some eggs for me, I would LOVE you FOREVER!
Or, if not, I will wait til Fall. I waited long enough. What's a few more months!

I don't have an incubator, and I have NO clue what to do.
Terissa is SUCH a sweetie, and the birds are AMAZING. I just wish Tori would lay me SOMETHING. LoL
I was sure I would have had at least 1 egg by now. LOL Oh well.
She's just oppositional-Defiant. That's all!

Kind of like my kids! Ha ha ha!
I do love them though. SO sweet and tame. They're AMAZING.
They DO make me want more of them though! LOL

Onthespot: I have 12 nestboxes in the coop, and each one has 1-2 eggs in it. I am trying to convince My little Feather-Baby that it's OK to lay. She's not really getting it though. LOL

Ashia,

Here is our main man, Norman. He's not perfect but when you have Bev Davis telling you you should show him, that must be a compliment.

Edit: Excuse the mud, we are still a icy sludge mess out here

One or two eggs is not enough. Choose the nestbox they use the most, and pile all those eggs into one box. Part of what makes them decide to go broody is if the clutch is big enough, ready to set.

Oh wow.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's BEAUTIFUL.!!!!!

Here is my Baby Boy. His name is "Rusty". (Hubby named him)
His comb has been Frost-Bit. According to Terissa, all the other roosters beat him to a pulp, so he had to sleep outside.
His comb was sacrificed as a result...

But that's OK. I ADORE HIM.!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I never thought a person could LOVE a chicken! But I do!

I have quite a few Pullets growing up, and more coming. He will be the KING of my Chickens. If, by any chance I happen to have another rooster in the bunch somewhere. He WILL be culled.

Rusty is the ONLY Roo I want, and the ONLY one I am going to keep around.
I LOVE HIM.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can I not? I mean LOOK at how absolutely ADORABLE he is.!!!!!!?????

And here is the problem.
Tori (the BCM hen) is the ONLY hen I have whom is of laying age.
All the rest are young. Like 6-8 weeks young.
AND, I have 15 more Day-Old Chicks coming in 2 weeks (5 Cinnamon Queens, 5 RIR's and 5 Brown Leghorns)
So no one else is laying. She's IT.

BUT, I will stick all the eggs in one basket....
We'll see what happens...

Just know that if you force her into going broody you wont see eggs for quite sometime! I have
2 of my girls who are broody right now, one has been that way for 2 months, the other a month......
