Hey all, as the title says this is a different type of request!
I have a mixed flock that has layers aged six months and a set of three pullets that just turned 15 weeks old.
The expected Australorp brown and Sebright cream eggs were found in the nest box this morning.
When I went out to give them some attention, I noticed a surprise in the nest box!
I would describe the egg as a perfect middle ground between the Sebright cream tiny egg and the brown Australorp eggs. Its white spotted when dry but brown spotted when wet, which is wild. It is also smaller than the Sebright egg, which definitely points my suspicions at my younger hens (along with the fact the the older hens already laid today).
So! Attached is a picture of the egg next to a Sebright egg.
I will attach pictures of the suspected pullet.
This black pullet was sold to me as a "French Cuckoo Marans" though BYC thinks shes not as labeled. I think she might be a Mystic Onyx. However, when I go to look for eggs from that breed I don't get anything definitive. I WAS hoping for Marans dark color, which is why I tried to select for the breed (silly of me to buy local and trust though)!
The other pullets are Olive Eggers, which I do not think were labeled wrong based on BYC and my own quick research.
I love all my chickens and don't care strongly if it is my "Marans" laying this egg, only a little put out since I wanted a rainbow basket XD.
