Ok I am almost finished with my future girls house, I am so excited... However, :( I am having a difficult time figuring out the best place to put the roost for the girls. I am going to have a total of 6 chicks and they will have access to both the coop and run (to be build) basically 24/7 until it starts to snow (highly unlikely anytime soon here in the high desert). I will be giving them roosts outside in their yard but I know that wont be enough for them as I am sure they want to sleep in a nice warm place at night.
Anyway, can I have some ideas on where to place the roosts?

Pics of my coop can be found at https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/895743/almost-done-soo-excited

Thank you in advance

Can't tell if you have a large clean out door or not but I would get a couple of 2x4 double joist hangers so you can lay it in flat side up, this way it makes it removable for easy cleaning just pop it in.If you put the rroost near the door you won't have to climb in to remove/clean them.

From your other thread

With the yard being installed, I am thinking about leaving the entry door open all the time, except for the winter months when it gets below 50.

50 degrees is just getting comfortable to chickens with their permanent down coat. I leave my pop door open even with snow on the ground or with temperatures below zero Fahrenheit and leave the choice of what to do to them. Snow often slows them down but unless the wind is blowing and they can’t get out of it, mine go outside even in below zero weather. And if snow stays on the ground for a few days, they go walking in that.

This shows what mine did when it snowed during the day and they were already out. They just stayed out.

This showed what mine decided to do when it was 4 degrees above zero Fahrenheit.

I can’t tell how you are going to clean it either. They will poop a lot while on the roosts so you will wind up cleaning a lot in that area. Put the roosts where they are noticeably higher than anything else, where they won’t poop in the food and water or nests, and where you can clean out under them.

I do have a huge clean out door in the back with a 3.5' wide opening to access. it gives me plenty of room to get inside.
