I put something around the hen and her nest so that she would stay on it and when I checked tonight, there was a duck hatched!!!
will momma chicken take care of it or do I need to take it and put it under a light.
She is protecting it cause she went after me when I tried to look.
I am so excited cause I thought that I had lost the bunch she was on when she left the nest and the eggs got cold....
Praise God for His awesome miracles!!!!

Dont worry at all, The chicken will take better care of her than My ducks would!!!
The duckling needs turkey/gamebird starter, not chick starter. Then a shallow water container. The ducklings love their drinks!!!
good luck how lucky you are.
I tried to put my runt ducklings in with a broody hen, she loved them but the duckies attacked the poor hen!

I will get the game starter tomorrow....will the biological parents want anything to do with it?
There are still about 10 eggs under her. should I leave them and see if any more hatch? I think that was the only duck one. all the others are brown.

Maybe, however if the duckling is out of sight you should be right, however i dont know what will happen if the other ducklings hatch and you reunite your little one with them.
You will have to be there and get ready to rescue her if you attempt this.
I am learning something new every day with my ducklings, They are brutal to each other sometimes.
Im not sure what other advie to offer now but if I think of anything ill post you!
Perhaps just leave her with the hen and watch for developments, my hens like ducklings!!

sorry, i misunderstood your post, Yes I believe that they will get along, what breed will the chicks be?
when are they due?
Im sure others have had this before and I hope they will let you know how they fared.
You can always introduce the chicks to the duckie and grab him if it doesnt work.
Just have a plan B in place.

I'd leave the duckling with her. Also you can give the duckling chick stater...just make sure the only "medication" it contains is amprolium which is fine for ducklings. It's actually not a medication...it's a preventative for coccidiosis. I always feed my chicks and ducklings both the chick starter from Purina....it's called Start and Grow.
