A Dumb Baking Question

More layers = more frosting = better cake

Cake is simply a socially acceptable way to eat frosting!

Although I do make an exception for a good, dense carrot cake with raisins and walnuts. Although, to me that's almost more like a quick bread.

Frosting on quick bread! Why haven't I thought of this earlier?

Lets not go down that road again. The cake/quick bread debate.

While not being a big fan of frosting and dessert in general ,actually hate it to the point where my wife and kids got me a pint of pistachio ice cream instead of cake for my b-day. But the best frosting I ever had was indeed on a carrot cake not mention the cake was awesome too. You just knew it was absolutely not good for you and pounds of butter went into the recipe. All homemade stuff washed down with ice cold whole milk.

You can always make the "extender" recipe and that fills the pan without using another mix. It also adds more of a homemade taste to it.

Extender Recipe for any 18 oz. Boxed Cake Mix

1 C of Sifted all purpose Flour or cake flour
1/2 C Granulated sugar
1 tsp. of baking powder
1 egg
1/2 C of water

Baking is kinda my thing and the sole reason I decided to start keeping Chicks. It works great. Another tip is to round up the vegetable oil to 1/2 C rather than a 1/3 that most boxes call for, and to set the timer for 2 mins. less than recommended baking time.

Enjoy!

REALLY?!!!! Hmmmm, I have room for ducks!

I will have to study on this and ask the Grand Poooo Bah if ducks are doable. He's already agreed to put up fencing for a few calves. . . . ducks are little -I see no problem with this . . . .

hehehe!

I don't have tons of experience with different breeds but my mom had Khaki campbells and they laid well and were quiet. I currently have Rouens and they're quite noisy--we call them the peanut gallery. Check out the duck threads, those folks can direct you on good breeds. Duck eggs are larger and richer than chicken eggs. I personally don't care for them straight, like fried or scrambled, but did I mention the brownies?

I agree with donrae about Khaki Campbells. They're a little slow to start, but once they do...

Aside from SunSinger who plays rooster every morning they are quiet. Also agree about using them for baking/cooking. They're a bit strong tasting for fried.

P.S. I know the answer, but as much as I'd like to visit Oregon again I'm to old and worn out to drive all that way to pickup a handsome Easter Egger cockeral or a playful kitten.

Oh I'll happily box them up and ship to you!

I was starting to wonder if anyone would get that, trying to think of another quote from the same movie and all I could think of was "Chef's do that", but that's not much to go on.

Off to find another quote............I have a bored 11 year old I'll consult............see where that leads us.
