So you're saying the fox got through the bird netting, and because the run door was open, it got into the run too?

The obvious first step is to close the chickens into the run earlier in the evening, but I've had a fox come in the early morning and even the middle of the day, once it knew there were chickens available. You might have to keep the chickens safely in the run unless you are able to be outside with them.

And even the run might not be enough protection-- a chicken could stick her head out and get it bitten off, and I don't know whether foxes in your area could go over the fence and in the top.

It can definitely be difficult to keep chickens safe, because so many creatures like to eat them :(
