i am just trying to prove that guineas can and will attack things alot bigger then they are and are not as prone to predators as jvls is claiming.

but on that note i could make a video of my guinea cock attacking my dad if you wished or chasing a feral cat, might take a few days to get it on film but i could do it.

I never questioned that a guinea would go after something larger than they are.. I had a week old chicken bite my finger and stand up to my hand.. but that does not make him a man eater like your guineas.. I have seen chickens chase cats and dogs.. and even take a swipe at a cow or horse.. but when a weasel or mink comes along, they are just as dead as the tame ones... You took a few swipes at me and my guineas and I am not going to say anything back..except, the predators in your neck of the woods just are not hungry yet.. I concede, you have the meanest guineas in this USA..
does that make you happy?

ok first of all i took swipes at your guineas cause you took swipes at mine.

second you are telling me my guineas will get ate by predators when you dont know what predators i have and you don't know MY guineas, cause your guineas get ate doesn't mean mine will.

third the predators i have in the day here are feral cats, local dogs, hawks and maybe the random rapid raccoon or fox and i KNOW my guineas could handle all of them except the fox and raccoon.

for night time critters there is skunks, owls, foxes, raccoons but i'm not to worried with the way i have my pens set up the chances of them getting into 1 is 1 in 1000.

fourth i did have the meanest guineas you have ever seen but i put them in the freezer! that's right the ones i have now are "nice" compared to what the others were, the others would of killed my roosters, killed the other male guineas, killed half my chickens, killed all the cats around and would of sent me to the ER about 10 times by now, you don't know what a mean guinea is like tell you would of met one of them.

as for the predators here not being hungry? the feral cats try to take my chickens every day almost, yet my nicest guinea (he's lowest in the pecking order) chases them of by himself with out a problem.

You sure are hung up on having the meanest of everything. good for you.. I just wonder what you will have to say when one of those wild predators eats one or all of your guineas.. I will bet we will not ever hear of that.. Not that it will not happen, you just will not admit it..

good luck.. I am not going to continue in this thread anymore,, I am bored..

How do you get them to come into the coop? I have 6 keets that are 1 month old and were hatched and are being raised by a chicken.

She has yet to bring them into the coop and continues to keep them out where she hatched them which is in an open lean-to off of the barn. We thought that she'd have them in the coop at night before now but so far she has not done this. Will she eventually lead them in at night with the rest of the hens or will we have to capture her to remind her?

(It's been a couple of months now since she went into the coop herself) due to where she decided to have her clutch.

you are going to have to get the chicken back into the coop.. You should do it while the guineas are still young enough to follow her..
I guess that means,, right now..

she will not go back on her own..

ok, either it was a baby guinea or thats not an owl. owls hunt mice, lizards, even snakes in the night. they will not charge at anything way bigger than them. guineas are monsters when it comes to predators, the only bird of prey that could kill a guinea would be a large hawk or eagle. then again, they wouldnt be able to fly off with it! they could kill one but the rest of the flock would quickly deal with that disturbance. A full grown guinea could not be carried by a hawk, let alone an owl!

a large hawk or an owl can carry off a small dog or cat. a laying guinea like the ones killed by owls here are no problem for them..

owls do not hunt only at night.

and I watched a hawk kill and carry off a fryer size chicken..
every bit as heavy as a guinea..

and we had an owl go into the chicken coop and kill a Buff Orpington laying hen. and there were 10 guineas and 55 BO chickens and two full grown roosters in there..

guineas do not band together and fight a hawk.. quit reading those fiction books and get out into the outdoors and witness some of these things for yourself..

do some research and forget those old wives tales..

I am betting I am much older than you and have spent way much more time in the woods hunting and observing nature.. you might get somebody else to believe your tall tales, but you are wasting your time trying to convince me..

I suppose you believe everything in the story about Bambi .

I don't understand what your problem is, but you have insulted pretty much everyone on this thread, you are the one attacking everyone, YOU are the one trying to make a point but no one has attacked you, You are the one being a troll. I never said any thing negative to you, but you seem to think its okay to call me an idiot and to insult me. and please tell me all those fiction books about guineas and show me proof of a owl carrying a dog! You worthless waste of time. jeez!

Chicken Obsessed - We drove the mama and the baby guineas into the coop a couple of days ago to remind her when she started.

All is well. They are all getting along great with everyone - thank you for the incentive to get her in there. I appreciate all of the help on this thread.

Apologies to the OP for the fighting that has taken this thread over. I hope you got the answers you needed.

If not, please post again and I "guarantee" that the thread will go smoothly. Just link me to your new thread and I will personally monitor it.

To those of you involved in the squabbling and rudeness....shame on you for ruining a perfectly good thread.
