A few hours ago a chick hatched in my incubator. It is chirping constantly but is unable to stand it is just laying in the incubator. There is blood in the egg and on the wing of the chick. Is there anything I can do to save this chick? I am relatively new to incubating any help would be helpful. Thankyou

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Just let the chick dry off and if no other eggs are pipping when he is dry, get him into the brooder. You might turn up the heat a bit for a day or so to give him a bit of a boost. Up around 97 or 98 degrees. Put 2 tablespoons of sugar in a quart waterer and fill with water. Dip his beak in the water when you first put him in the brooder and set him right near the water. Dip his beak in the water each hour so he gets some of this sugar water in him. Then tomorrow, if you have any poultry vitamins or even Poly Vi Sol, you can put either of these in the water. Weak chicks need Vit. B, E and Selenium. If he also has splay legs, you may need to tape up the feet so they stay in the proper position.

Definitely stop by our Hatching Eggs section for more help with the little guy...https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/5/incubating-hatching-eggs

Or even the Raising Baby Chicks section as well....https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/11/raising-baby-chicks

Good luck and I hope the little guy makes it.

Welcome to the flock. I hope your little chick will be okay. When any chicks are born they may lay around for quite awhile before trying to stand or look around. Does he appear to have active bleeding?
