Alrighty, I have a few questions about molting.
This year after begging and begging my mother to get a pet chicken(s) She said yes, they're are about 3-4 week old bantams A rooster and a hen, (Supposed to be both hens, show's you what feed store people know)
They are starting to get older feathers, wing and chest area, and loosing they're downy fluff, Do bantams go through more then one molt?
Or are these feathers that they are growing will be they're only molt?
Thanks so much!

Well, I don't know about bantams since I only have large heavy fowl, but they are just getting their first real feathers. They should go through another real molt at about 18 months-the kind where they look really ugly for weeks at a time and the whole coop is full of feathers. I had about 6 hens go through their first big molt this past winter, and we had lots of snow and temps in the teens, but they did not care. They were grouchy and tempermental, plus they were shut up due to the weather, but all the extra feathers added to the shavings in the coop kept them warm, (along witha heat lamp for the minus degree nights.) Anyway, this is not a molt, just part of growing from cute fluffy chicks to pullets. You can do a search on molting and see some really funny pics from other members.

Oh great, and I though I had a lot of feathers to pick up
