A few of my chicks are wheezing. What do I do? Treat one or all.

I noticed that one of my 7 week old cochin chicks is wheezing. I really didn't notice the others doing it. I have never had any sickness with my flock and was wondering what I should do. Of course, I knew you people would give me good advice. Do I get and antibiotic and what kind? how much? or do I let it run it's course. Just needing some help.

I would wait on the antibiotics. When a chicken gets a "cold" it is usually not a bacterial problems. They get a virus and this has to run its course. The other birds will probably get it too. If you see a secondary problem, like an infection of the eyes or heavy snot running form the nostrils (with no smell), then you may give a general type antibiotic. Remember though, once you start an antibiotic it must be of the correct concentration and duration. Follow the directions for amount and do not give less than 10 days.

I looked them over and no runny noses or discharge. I bought a couple chicks over the weekend. Probably not a good idea, but I just had to have them.
