Hi,

I just stumbled across this posting https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/incubating-and-hatching-muscovy-eggs.63532/ when searching for tips on hatching Muscovy eggs. I have read and re-read the guide and I have a few questions.

A few details first:

Incubator we are using: http://a.co/j91PI4p (Yaufey Mini Research & Household Fully Automatic 9~12 Digital Eggs Incubator)
Eggs were shipped and arrived yesterday: April 18th.

I carefully took all of the eggs out and placed them pointy side down in an old egg carton and marked them with a felt tip marker.

According to the guide:
all shipped eggs should be incubated for the first 36 to 48 hours standing upright (pointy end down) and NOT TURNED for those first 36 to 48 hours
after the first 48 hours has passed you can turn on the autoturner... they still need to be upright and autoturned for best results...
I should leave them like this then use the auto turner after this time period. What is throwing me is, that it says that the eggs should still be upright. I'm not exactly sure how this should work as if I put them to be auto turned, the will lay on the side of the egg which the guide mentions not to do until day 15. I'm still withing the first 24 hours of day 1 incubation. I'm looking for advice on if they should be laid on their sides or just rotated upright?

Thanks for your help!

Hello! When you receive shipped eggs. Its best to let the eggs sit pointy end down for 12-24 hours so the air cells can reattach. You should not incubate the eggs until after the resting of 12-24 hours. Once rested, then you can place them inside your incubator. I ship Muscovy eggs a lot, I also receive shipped eggs. This is the same process I take during each time I receive shipped eggs.

Thanks, that I did I have a question about rotation. According to the guide it says the eggs should be rotated with the pointy side down. That's what is confusing me. Should they be rotated with the pointy side up or should they be just turned ? I know the guide says they should not be set on their side until about day 15. Just trying to clarify. Thanks!

You can choose to lay them on their sides or pointy end down. Do you have an egg turner? If you do, you place the eggs pointy end down in the turner like this:

If you have an egg turner like this, You place your eggs laying on their sides:

Or if you don't have an egg turner, simply lay them on their sides or in egg cartons and turn them at least 3 times a day. If you lay them in a egg carton, just place something under one side to elevate that side and switch it from one side to another every 3 hours:
