A flock of 6 Guinea wondered onto the farm a few days ago and well late yesterday evening I found 4 dead and shredded to bits one severely wounded and now I have this one lone hen frantically calling for her mates I did manage to catch her once but needless to say she flew the coop and is wandering all over the area alone and in harms way I don't know what to do for her and I hate to find her demise by predators I am open for suggestions here, I contacted the owners aunt and three days later they have not bothered to find these feathered friends ( well the last hen standing) I know I shouldn't worry but being who I am I am very concept for her safety. If I do happen to catch her should I take her back to her owner or should I let her be????

She hel
The might be something that have had attracted the guineas in your farm. they like to wander far from home, especially during the breeding season. even if you try to take her back home, she might still come back another time unless the owner decided to coop her up...
She helped herself to my coop and joined my flock of chickens went right inside claimed her spot and ate breakfast with my feathered Friends if the owner does come to claim her I will relinquish her back to them ...or offer to buy her if she sticks around I have been watching her and she fits right in my girls didn't even care she was there she flew into my coop and seems to feel safe hope I get to keep her, I like her lol. I named her Gwen the guinea hen

I believe I would keep her. Even if she goes back to her owner she will be lonely without the rest of her mates. A flock usually stays together when out free ranging so she has probably lost all her friends. If she is happy with your chickens then I think that's the best option for her. I would ask to keep her or buy her if the owner does show up. ;)

Thanks I will definitely buy her if they show interest in retrieving her however its been 3 days and no signof her owners who know where she is so fingers crossed they don't want her back

that is soo good to hear that. and too, I would also do the same. guinea hens can thrive well chickens even if the is no male. In the past years, we starterd with 12 guineas. 8 died while they were still keets. then 4 made it. three hens and one male. one hen died.... few months later the second hen. lasted with one male and one hen. The hen used to gang up with the other two hens, but after death she started to hang with her foster mother ( chicken). and the male on the other side, gang up with young muscovy ducks and roosters. she managed to lay infertile eggs even though the male was there. we bought 20 fertile eggs from a friend, and place them under while she was broody. then the flock raises like the sun in the mountain. thats how our 21 guinea flock started

I have a question about guineas. I thought since you have a flock that maybe you can help. Three showed up at our house and I have two flocks of chickens so I'm assuming that's why they stick around. Do guineas get mites?

20171110_203015.jpg This is Bellar,The lady who raised the entire flock. by September she'll be turning 9 years. she's a good mom. And i had finally come to understanding out that- as guinead get older,They experience alot from brooding, raising and lure the predators(finding better spots to nest). When she started laying eggs, The clutch was normally 15 or 19. but in the last past two it dropped to 10, and the fertility Rate dropped alot. but i cant sell her away, she the only hen who always bring up the keets home and safe. She have had a problem with mites, but I bath her with dog shampoo. no mites. Not at all...
