Found this on another forum, thought it was hilarious!
This happened this afternoon at our hospital. Every word is true, even the last line.
So we are done consulting, and as I am finishing up phone calls I see Holly, my head tech, going over a handsome young yellow lab in the waiting room, with a, say, mid sixties couple.
I ask what is up, and the man replies that they lost their dog and put up fliers, someone found this dog and 'the police' returned it (?) because it matched the picture on the flier, but they were not sure it was their dog so they were having the microchip checked.
I said ' You don't know if it's your dog?' And she said, 'Well, it looks like him.'
Holly says ' The chip doesn't match', so I say ' Well, slip her up on the table and let's make sure.' Holly gives me this very odd look, like she thinks I'm crazy. But she complies.
So I run the scanner up the right side of the neck - find the chip - no match. But I say , 'Just to be sure,I have seen this before,' I run the scanner over the top of the dog's neck. I get a SECOND chip read. Once again, it doesn't match either. So i say, well, this would be a first, but ...' run the chip down the left side of the neck - a THIRD chip. You guessed it, no match.
Resolving this mess will be interesting. Someone, (well, two someones ) have messed up.
So she says, 'Yes, I didn't think he was ours. He is neutered and ours was not.' Starting to become a little exasperated, I reply, ' How long has he been gone?' and she says ' Four days.'
So, I say, ' Yes, I can assure you he has not been neutered in the last 4 days. There would be an incision. Leave him with me and I will call Animal Control in the morning and we will work this out and get him home.'
So as they drive off Holly says to me' Are they gone?' I reply 'Yes, why?'
And she says ' because I KNEW it wasn't their dog before I checked it. They own a Golden.
