A goat! A goat! A goat! Yippee!!!!

When I'm camping out with the goats I sleep in a hammock, or if my wife's along we set up a small tent. I rig a tarp nearby for the goats to sleep under if it gets wet. They sleep close by at any rate. They are usually up and browsing for breakfast pretty early, but they don't go far from camp. And the bell lets me know where they are. Also, my dog is alert to anything coming around, plus there's the human scent of camp. The places we go are pretty wild, so there's not much chance of coming in contact with camp-raiding bears that have become used to humans. What I worry about most, tho, is dogs on trails. I have had numerous encounters with them. So far my walking stick has been all the weapon that's necessary, but I also carry a .38. The good thing about the goats is that they don't need trails. They can go places where horses can't go. So a lot of the time we just bushwack crosscountry. Also they eat whatever they find along the way, so they don't have to carry any food for themselves. All they carry for themselves is a 9x12 tarp, a 1st aid kit (I share that with them), and leashes (only used around roads and parking lots).

Here's a pic of one of my camps last summer:
