I happened to come across an opportunity to rescue 2 chickens who are to be moved to a kill "shelter" because they haven't been able to find anyone to take them. These are the pictures I received of them, one looks male, one looks female, but no idea from my shelter on ages or breeds. The darker one honestly looks like a fighting breed, and I have no idea on background. I have 3 leghorn hens and 3 red star hens, and have been looking for a rooster, and because chicken math, if that's a roo and a hen, well that's just fine, we have the room! Any idea on breeds? I know they're "just chickens" but ours are pets, not food, and I don't want them to have to die just because no one is willing to step up and take them.....

The male is a probably silkie cross, given the fibromelanisation. He could also be part Svart Hona or Ayam Cemani, but given the beard and what looks like it may be a small crest, those seem less likely (Since he has no fifth toe or feathering on his legs, I wouldn't rule those options out entirely, mind you. He could be an AC or SH crossed with an Easter Egger.)

Silkies definitely aren't a "fighting breed." None of those three breeds are gamefowl; though I did find reference to ACs being used as cockfighters, they almost certainly aren't bred for it, especially in the states.

Agree on the "probably a delaware pullet."

I feel so ignorant, lol, of course the term is gamecock, sorry..... That's something I personally have no interest in, and I guess my main concern is aggression, I want a protective roo, but I don't want him to beat up my girls. But I think that could happen with any breed, honestly. Thanks again, you guys ROCK

The body type of the pullet is thin, tightly feathered, lean tailed, and her legs are green tinted. My guess is they are both mixed breeds with some gamefowl blood.

Delawares should be more solid with yellow legs.
