A Great Mystery: Why are my chickens NOT eating worms?

Strange. My two barred rock hens are no longer eating worms (they're 3+ years old and otherwise feeding normally). Past winters, when the ground is wet, I take them through the yard overturning rocks, stepping stones , etc. and they've gobbled up the earth worms like a delicacy. This winter they turn their beaks up at the crawling creatures. Anybody have a clue as to why?

Maybe their tastes have changed? I don't know! But a word of warning: earth worms can be carriers of intestinal worms' eggs. So it's not an ideal snack for them. Mealworms are great though! And crickets...
