Last night when I was feeding my chickens one of my 23 weeks old pullet came walking by with 5 newly hatched chicks. I have no idea where she had hidden her nest!

Last night when I was feeding my chickens one of my 23 weeks old pullet came walking by with 5 newly hatched chicks. I have no idea where she had hidden her nest!

That’s wild. Many 23 week olds aren’t even laying yet. Let alone have gone broody, laid a clutch of atleast 5 eggs, and disappeared for three weeks.

I did find her nest in rock pile that is in their meadow. She had a nice little cave under it.

I actually had an old English game bantam lay 5 eggs at about 24 weeks, she went broody with 1 of her eggs and 4 Mille fleur ductless from a Mille fleur exact same age..and then I stuck an egger under her as I removed eggs that appeared to be unfertilized( showed zero development)+ she pretty much stays broody since then..had a coaching bantam go broody and try to sit on a clutch until an older hen stole it and hatched/raised the coaching

I know, but she is a white leghorn cross. White leghorns are known to start laying earlier than most breeds but they never go broody!?
