I was just about to place an order for 25 Bantam chicks, half Buff Brahma Bantams and half Quail Antwerp Belgian Bantams (aka Bearded D'Anvers Bantams) for delivery at the beginning of May, but I cancelled at the last second and figured I should come here first to find out if there's a better way of doing this. I am looking for a hatchery that sells these two breeds A.) as female, not straight run, B.) available around the beginning of May and C.) with a small minimum order. My order was only going to cover "B." so I'd like to see if there's any possibility of a hatchery that would cover all three before settling and going back to the original order.

I really do not want any roosters (have had horrible experiences with them in the past) and only want a few of each of these guys--like 3 or 4, so my plan has been to order the minimum 25 of them as straight run, raise them all until they're old enough to tell male/female and then sell/give away around 20 of them including all the roosters to people who will care for them and not eat them. This is a pretty costly and troublesome plan however which is why I'd like to cancel the order and get a smaller number of just female chicks from another source if at all possible.

I've come very close (two out of three) with mypetchicken.com which sells these two breeds as just females and has a very small minimum order (5 chicks), but unfortunately the soonest I would be able to get them from there isn't until the beginning of July which wouldn't work for me.

So again, if anyone knows of a hatchery that sells these breeds and meets those three requirements, I'd be forever grateful if you could point me in the right direction!

Thanks!

I know Mt. Healthy sells the buff brahma sexed, not straight run. I'm not sure if they have the other breed you're looking for. They do have minimum orders too.

we have 17 colors of d'anvers. All straight run or eggs though. No brahmas though. Finding a small order place for bantams is tuff, small order and sexed very tuff!! Day old bantams need the larger quantities in shipping for the body heat or they dont generally survive. On top of that we always put heat packs in the order and ship express mail so they dont die in those 3-4 day priority mail trips.
You may want to consider eggs if you are just wanting a few to cut back cost, if you have an incubator??
