I was letting my dogs out and could hear my guineas off behind the house in the trees. I could also hear crows making a racket. I walked back to see what was going on and to my surprise an owl took flight and landed in a tree above my ranging birds!
The turkeys were with the guineas at the time and I’m wondering if maybe that was their saving grace. The owl was not at all bothered by my presence.
Here you can barely see him up in the tree in the middle of the picture. I was calling the guineas and turkeys away so I could lock them up.

I was able to call my son out to bring my camera to me. I snapped a few pictures and then locked up the birds. The owl was still there when I was done, so I took the opportunity to get some practice with my zoom lens.

I’m really shocked the pictures didn’t turn out a blurry mess. It was so windy and I was using my big lens with no tripod. My arms got tired fast!
We can hear owls at night from time to time, but we rarely see them. I’m definitely going to be on guard for a while.

Those pictures are amazing! I'm glad you were able to get out there and lock your birds up before anything happened to one!:love
Thank you:) I am too!
Beautiful pictures!
Thank you:)
I wonder if an owl would even try to kill a turkey or a guinea, they're no slouches.
I bet the owl is glad you turned off the racket in the middle of his nap.
I’m not sure if it would try to kill a turkey. Maybe a turkey hen, but the males are pretty big. My hen is about the size of my jumbo guineas. The standard size guineas are closer the chicken size. I’d imagine a great horned owl could easily take one. Maybe the flock as a whole made it hard for him to single one out.

I just went out with the dogs to collect eggs and the owl is still there! He is not giving up.

He's looking down his beak at you😆 He looks thoroughly angry at chu. "why would you put those meals in that coop? I would have shared with you!"
Haha 😆 He definitely isn’t happy. I just took away any chance at an easy meal. I swear he’s just sitting there fuming. Lol
Great photos ! Way past cool ! He is an awesome creature as long as he don't go after your feathered friends !🦉 Wow !
Thanks! I do love owls. They are beautiful and majestic looking. I just don’t plan on feeding them. Haha.
