Heya folks. Still new here.
Late last night my eggs hatched :D

Which is pretty great because I was actually quite sure none of these eggs would hatch given the shape they were in when I got them.
Out of the dozen I had shipped only three didn't have any obvious cracks. And they arrived early, before the shipping estimate, so they were sitting under the 110+ degree California sun for who knows how long before I got home.

Originally there were eight in the incubator. Then six. Hatch day rolls around, and the only thing I got was another dead egg.
Admittedly, kinda discouraged. But given the bad shape and porch bake, I was prepared for this possibility. First time incubating too.

But then as I'm going to bed, my fiancee rushes in to tell me the eggs are wobbling violently. And within five minuets we had a couple quail.

Unfortunately, out of the 4 that pipped, these are the only two.
The other two died in the egg. One seemed like it might have been too wet. Yolk unabsorbed. The other perhaps too dry... Or maybe even just too large in the egg.
It was sad seeing their lil beaks poking out this morning, totally still.

tl;dr

But at least there's these two. I had said to my fiancee, that I'd consider it a win if we got one bird out of this. And we got two!

The lighter colored one has been screaming it's tiny quail head off since he's gone into the brooder. Seems fine though! Just particularly dependent.
They seem to be eating and drinking okay. It's hard to tell, they just peck at everything. Water. Food. Bedding. Fingers.

So far so good.
