In the Brooder
Howdy! I'm a ten plus year Hen owner who has raised many sets of chicks from Tractor Supply and even six guinea fowl one year. Last year a rooster showed up in the yard and he's been here ever since. So this spring I started leaving batches of eggs for a few days at a time hoping a hen would turn broody. Not one out of six did.
At the end of May, I acquired two laying Muscovies. A few weeks later, one turned broody!! After researching here mostly, I took the duck eggs and replaced them with ten chicken eggs and three weeks later, Viola! Baby chickens! Three of them. Then four days of nothing so I discarded the remaining eggs and put seven new ones under her. So my question is: do you think the surrogate mother will hatch another round of youngins since the first batch got taken away?
