a lesson in saddle feathers please

Personal opinion only.....don't worry about it until they are 4-5 months old. By that time they will either be crowing or laying eggs. AND, if you wait until then, you can plan to buy more babies (or not) depending on what happens.

wildsky,

He knows he's the prettiest thing around my place so he can look as "crazy" as he wants to.

I assure you there's nothing wrong with him.

Actually, I guess he was just mesmerized by the green flash on my camera!

Good idea on the caption this.

yah,
only reason i'm so curious is i've been "springing" adult chickens from the local shelters and trying to find them new homes. (and i'm just so new at this that i really can't always tell who is who!).
i don't want to misrepresent the sex to potential adopters . . . that's all.
thanks again everyone - i cannot tell you how truely helpful all of your answers were!

p.s. it's working! i found good homes for four roosters last week!

fallenweeble, do the hens you spring from shelters lay properly or do they have 'issues'?

I finally found some 3 wk old chicks I am about to pick up this weekend, but it has crossed my mind to adopt some chickens from the local SPCA. Just wondering if you've gotten any barren hens?
