Hi! I am finally joining BYC after over a year of posing all of my queries through my daughter who is also a member on the site! We live in Canada and have been keeping birds for just over a year now. We have one Red Star who is close to two (we think), 3 Khaki Campbell ducks (1 male, 2 female) and 2 Pekin pairs, however one of our females has been missing for about a week, so we are not sure if she has hidden off somewhere on a clutch of eggs or if something worse has become of her :-(

Recently we decided to expand our flock and today we picked up 28 chicks from Performance Poultry (awesome, awesome service!), a great variety including 6 Ameraucana, 4 Buff Orpington, 4 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 1 Harco, 4 Red Star, 3 Black Australorp, and 6 assorted bantams... if I remember correctly there are 3 Brahma, 1 Japanese and 2 wyandotte. The standards are all female however the bantams were straight run, so we shall see how that goes! And right before leaving I could not resist but ask if they had any ducklings available... when he told me he had two 4 week old khaki Campbells, I could not resist!!!

Chickens were my daughters project, she self taught and saved in order to prove to us she could do it... what we didn't know is how hooked we would become!

I have long enjoyed browsing and reading the posts here on BYC and I have found many of the pictures inspirational- I really hope to be able to continue to learn and also contribute to this awesome community!

! Pleased to have you here! Best of wish to you and your flock!

Welcome to BYC from West TN !!! As you have already found there are plenty of good stuff and people here !!!

I *think* the Harco hen is similar, if not the same as a black sex link. She's 7 weeks now and is a little smaller than the astrolaups and seems to be developing a tiny bit if redish brown on the tip of some of her back feathers.
