A little amonia smell

Actually, DE will dry up moisture in your coop, and therefore would work to reduce or eliminate odor. But if it's not that bad, then opening the window is an easier solution.

A light sprinkling of DE on your shavings, gently tossed in would be sufficient.

BTW, Manok, you are right that DE is also good for avoiding pest problems. It's quite magical stuff...
