In the Brooder
We have 3 emu chicks and two adults (2 year olds). The adults are standards, and the chicks - two standards and one blonde. Oldest is 2 1/2 weeks old, and the other two are just over 1 1/2 weeks. They have their heat lamp on one side of their cage, with a "cooler" area to get away from the heat if needed. They get their greens three times a day, water changed out often (several times a day), and are getting non-medicated chick starter (it's what the breeder was giving them) until the ratite starter gets here. Today the oldest keep hanging its head down between its legs, resting it on the ground. When it sits, sometimes does the same, with head tucked under. Poop is right consistency, it's drinking, and I've seen it eating. The other two are fine, but this one seems to be having problems. I've read on other forums a possible vitamin deficiency? Any other ideas/suggestions? Either way, visit to the vet first thing in the morning, she's just getting worse through the night and unfortunately no one to call this late in our area.
