A Little Rifle Help, Please (Purchased Gun w/ PICS!!! Pg 12)

Just wanted to update everyone who is interested in the rifle I ended up choosing. I purchased a Remington 770 .270 caliber rifle last week for mainly deer hunting although I will occasionally use it for large raccoons.

I've been target practicing with it and it fires like a cannon. I'm using .270 WIN 130 grain rounds and it puts some impressive holes in tree stumps!

Thanks to all for your imput! I received lots of great suggestions and in the end, went with a rifle more suited to deer hunting than varmint elimination. Chance are I'll be purchasing another gun soon anyway, so maybe I'll pick up a .243 at that point for an in between rifle.

You guys and gals were very helpful and knowledgeable...Thanks!

Happy Halloween and Happy Hunting!!!

Very nice! My dad has a Remington .270 that he bought a few years ago, and has since gotten several deer with it. I think he has pretty much the same rifle, but his stock is different.

Nice choice!

This is an extremely stupid question. The only gun I own is an air rifle and I want something with a bigger POW! Do you need a licence to buy a rifle? Its only going to be used for predator protection.

I use the gamo air rifle...pretty effective on varmits eating off my lettuce, spinach, garden...ect....nothing like having a couple cocktails and waiting for the varmin to come into the yard...and my friends say I don't have a life.....

I don't believe you need a license. You have to fill out a lot of paperwork and register the gun, and you need to have valid IDs and all that stuff.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

For some reason

my predators have been afraid of me and haven't been showing up as much. I think I'm getting a bad reputation in varmint society. I don't think I'll be getting invited to any rodent minglers or meet and greets....

I guess that it really depends on where you live. Here, if any firearm (excepting black powder) is purchased through a dealer, you must fill out a form and they do a background check (Federal Law). Purchased from an individual, a receipt is a smart move, but not required by law.

Of course, in some states and cities, there are a lot more restrictions, waiting periods, and such. My advice would be to contact the local sheriff's office and ask.
