So....I purchsed my chickens last year as babie chickies. Due to the anialation of my vegtable garden, berry patches and flowers by the chicks/ chickens I decided this year to contain them a bit so I moved the coop and run to the other side of my yard, which also gets more shade in the summer. Their favorite dust bathing area is in there, a pear tree, plenty of shade in the afternoon and sun in the morning. This space is about 20X30, PLENTY of space for 3 chickens! Here is a picture:
They are soooooo angry about it!
Sad story: recently I discovered someone a few blocks away (I drive by this house at least once per day) has chickens living in a 4X4' box, I'm not lying. I spotted a heat lamp this winter and thought maybe they had a reptile in the box or were starting vegtables or something. My kid waits for the bus right at that corner and said she heard chickens in there. This morning I noticed they had at least added about a foot of chicken wire around the top facing the street and I saw a chicken head in there, BTW the light is still on at night. I can't even wrap my head around this. I want to tell MY chickens how really good they have it and to stop complaining!! They could be living in a little box....
