A little worried

I am a new chicken owner.

I have five BO chicks just over a week old and one who is almost two weeks old. I have had them for one week. They are typically very active; alternating between sleeping 30-45 minutes, eating playing and sleeping again.

This morning I noticed that my youngest (Molly) was sleeping while the others were playing. She has done that all day. Today was brooder cleaning day, so I pulled them out and my daughter watched them while i cleaned the brooder.

I put them all back in and since they have ALL been sleeping and not acting like normal.

They are all eating and drinking but not much pooping and almost no playing.

I also gave hard boiled egg as a treat (after the sleeping started) and all their little crops seem very full.

Am I just worrying too much?

Molly...sleeping

As long as they are eating and drinking, I wouldn't worry. I have a lot of chicks the same age, and most of the time when I look in, some are flat on their sides asleep. I figure they are babies, need their sleep. Sometimes they will be rambunctious, but it's cute seeing them all napping after they have been out playing.

Mine did that too. My husband came out to check on them for me once and thought some were dead. They just pass out like that sometimes. Growing its hard work and they are still just babies.

Sounds normal. Sometimes they just go through "sleepy" phases. When I had someone come to visit and they looked in the brooder, they thought a bunch of the sleeping ones were dead, and wouldn't believe me that they weren't until I woke them up!

I am happy to report that the McFlockertons seem to be doing fine this morning. All crops emptied over night and they are chirping away. Looks like they even had a party while I was sleeping!
