Today I just saw almost twenty chickens, male, female and chicks near my local bar. The location is near 91 NW 1st, Miami. There are busy streets with cars and they just ran across the street. That's no place for chickens to live.

Please let me know if you have any info can lead to getting them to safety/farms. I can help cover transportation cost or make a donation.

Including a link you can see them:

Thank you,
Daisy

Hi Daisy,

thanks for raising the issue and taking the initiative. I would like to suggest adding some information about where the is happening (city, state) maybe street/cross street is you can.

Do you think your local SPCA might be able to help by giving these birds a check up before we rehome them? In case they have communicable illnesses that could infect the adoptive flock.

Do you know why they are running amok? Did they belong to someone who changed their mind about caring for them? Did something happen?

Again, thank you for caring about something so helpless and precious.

Hi Michele. Thank you for these good questions. I will start looking for answers. I am guessing they were dumped here and certainly they have multiplied over the months. However it is ilegal to raise livestock in Miami. I last saw one or two back in Feb/March. I will certainly reach out to SPCA to see if they have any advice. To get them vet care, first they need to be trapped and there is large # of them. I will inquire. The chickens roam around in downtown Miami on NW 1st Street around the county courthouse.

I think the poster is referring to Miami, FL? Climate is right for feral chickens like roams Key West also.
My Miami friend said these chickens are normal in the streets. However it looks dangerous to me with cars and busy roads around. There are new chicks about weeks old. In my opinion it is better to relocate them. I will make some inquiries.

They can and do breed like rabbits. This is a problem in many areas of southern FL. I wish I could purchase some of these feral chickens for the genetics. I'm to far away here in AL to make a trip to bring some home.

Haha maybe I can send some your way. They look quite good/agile. Both my friend and I agree they are free range - they live free or die hard lol
I can upload some pics tomorrow. I only have videos and can’t upload here.

Photos would be great. Some of the feral chickens that I have seen around Tampa are beautiful.

@dblueroom Welcome from New Orleans! People seem interested, so hopefully all will work out well. That is a lot of chickens. We have a few parks in the Greater New Orleans area that people have been dropping chickens off. They seem to live nice lives. Is there any place you could bring the chickens to enjoy life until? Our parks have had feral chickens living there for generations and it all seems to work out well. Oh, the parks are also bird sanctuaries. :lau:hugs
