i've been lurking around here for a while and just joined! yay!

we've had chickens for 15+ years, and this year is our largest flock- which for the first time includes geese and turkeys. (well, turkey singular since i just lost one.) we have done it all: incubated our own eggs, ordered chicks, let broodies do their own thing, and adopted no-longer-wanted birds.

i'm an at-home mom, and use that to my birds' advantage and let them truly free range during the day. i feel they are happier and their diet healthier. i constantly talk to them, handle them and let them help me when i do anything in the flower beds or garden.

i adore my chickens, but this year is my year of the goose. i had all 3 of them asleep on the hammock with me. they are my yard buddies. and when you don't mind when a bird (or three) poops on you in a hammock, that is LOVE!! my husband cannot believe how sweet these geese are turning out to be.

instead of the crazy cat lady, i'm destined to be the crazy bird lady. but first i just need to train a goose to wear a diaper.....

Congrats on the new additions.

That's hilarious! I got a new rooster and I was holding him day before yesterday and he got a little spooked and did a little poop on my shirt, my daughter gagged, and all I said "oh poor baby, what scared my boy?!" and my husband was just shaking his head saying "You've got chicken crap on your shirt and you don't even care!"....ahhh life with chickens! I am new to chickens too (1 year and 1 month since my first 4 girls) and I am hooked! This is a cool site and I was a lurker for a year as well, until I joined today. I live in Smithfield, Va, whereabouts in VA are you from?
