Well, when I got home from school today, I discovered that some feathers were floating around. I'd seen this before: the neighbor's dog has escaped and "played with" our chickens. I went to evaluate the damage, and lo and behold, was a dead chicken.
It's body was mostly intact, except for the fact someone had eaten it's neck. The head was still attached, just missing it's neck meat. All the other chickens were fine, it was just this one.
So, I of course went to see if the neighbor's dog was in it's pen. It was. I don't know precisely when the attack occurred, sometime between last evening and 4:00 PM. A large window of time for this to have happened. We live in Central Texas, so I can assume some predators can be counted off from that.
Thanks for your help!
