Here is the pic of a pullet with very little tuff on her head.

Is that normal??????? How did that happen?

She is a beautiful thing! Friendly too!

If she was hatched that way, it's genetic. Of the 25 brabanters I'm raising this spring, one of them is scalped as well. It happens!

That is what the other Spitz breeders are saying...cull her if you want to use her for breeding. So I have her listed on Eggbid because I still want to breed them. At least out of so many I have hatched this year, only ONE PAIR came out good, or better than the rest.

She is sure a sweet thing but my heart says cull her instead of keeping her if I am going to raise better Spitzhaubens and having to sort thru all the white eggs is not going to be a cup of tea!

There will be a lucky owner to have her who would want a pet Spitz girl for laying only!

I have two little Spitz chicks that are about a month old. One already has a very obvious mohawk and the other has none. I hope she/he is just slower to develop, but it's possible I may have one like yours. I will keep mine for a pet, though. I get attached to my chickens.

Too bad you don't have an egg-layer pen you could put her in. We are keeping separate pens for our pure-bred Australorps that my husband plans to breed and our laying hens.

She is still a pretty girl, even without the mohawk. Good luck with finding her a good home!

Glad you have a girl you can put her with your flock.

If I dont sell her on Eggbid, all is well and one day someone will ask about pullets for sale.

Other than that, she would be a good white egg layer!

I agree.

If she had just a small crest, I would breed her. She could help put some smaller crests on the next generations. Having no crest at all is not good.

I cull all my Brabanters with no crests.

Two things or then some, she got some positive notes on her end.

She has a V comb
Nice feather patterns, can not wait for the permanent featherings come in.
large nose or "airholes"
Sweet personality and disposition.
