today i walked out to my chicken coop at about 3 oclock and i saw a mockingbird flying around in the enclosed run. I have absolutely no idea how it got in there. Everything is very secure and there is just no way it could have gotten in. i know it wasnt in there at 8 oclock this morning. all the doors are very secure and they barely have a crack a snake can get through. the chicken wire runs to the ground and there is no holes. this really suprised me. the really funny thing is that the mockingbird wasnt freaking out it acted as if it felt at home with my hens. i opened the door to the coop and eventually it flew out but it is still sitting in the tree next to the coop. haha this brightened my day.

has anybody else had something like this happen to them?

haha i think anything counts. my dog was attacked by a mockingbird.

it just amazes me because i know there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY it could have gotten into my coop

I had a mockingbird land on my butt this summer. I was bent over to trim some weeds from the sunflowers at the time. I guess it thought I was stealing the sunflowers?

I kind of was; The next day I cut a big blossom full of seeds for the coop!

I love Mockingbirds even though they have attacked my cats from time to time. They sing so beautifully and can "mock" other things besides birds. Car and building alarms are just a few. Have you ever watched them "dance"? Watch them out on the law as they are looking for bugs. Wings up, wings down, forward step, wings up, side hop! They really do look like they are dancing.

yea i have noticed their dance. is that regular for them or is that for mating purposes. i have also seen one act like it had a broken wing and flap in the grass then i would get close to it and it fly away.

We had one in the neighborhood when our next door neighbors had a young son. Apparently, the kid was into video games, and the room he played them in was near a tree the mockingbird sat in. In summer, the window was open. The mockingbird learned to imitate the video game sounds. *beep* *boop* *bing* *bip* and so on. It was funny, except when he sat in our tree at 3AM "playing" his games! LOL

We have one that can make sounds just like a baby chick in distress. It normally does them when I'm in the house and then I go running out thinking something is after the chicks, only to see the bird perched in a tree chirping away.
