ok so I posted all my eggs died right well I was too depressed to do anything with them so I just left them there. and low and behold later that night one of the pipps and the next morning is out of the shell!! But thats all I have heard from. so 1 out of 12

I think the thermometer has to be messed up because water was dripping off of everything and it still said 53. stupid cheapo thermometers. I'm going to leave the non hatched in there for another day just in case but I have to reset soon to get the hatcher ready for the ducks and turkeys. I'm going to be a wreck on those babies. If none of the ducks hatch I'm just not going to bother with them again till next year. (besides I don't think I will be able to find any.) Any how now I have one lone baby sitting under the heat lamp raising a ruckus. I hopw that one of the hens will take him but am not very posative because they turned their nose up to him earlier when I tried.

Unless you have a broody that's been setting for a while, it's not likely, imho, that a hen will take your baby. But give it a small stuffy and a mirror and it'll be fine. What a great opportunity to make her a pet.

Isn't it amazing how they can survive. Your thermometer is obviously off. I am sorry to say but a new one is in order. I had the exact same thing happen with only one chick hatching out of about 18 eggs. They were not shipped so I knew it was not that problem. I silly me, bought a new incubator, I am so glad I did, but as I read more and more on thermometers and calibration, I decided to buy a new one, It seems that new one I got was really not much better. So I had to buy yet another. I now have something I feel comfortable with but I always test it against others before setting my eggs. If I get to wide a swing, I try to make adjustments. There was as much as 6 degrees in Temp between the three and 10 points in humidity. I knew the first one was off in temp readings because I was getting 19 day hatches. The humidity reading would zonk out after 4 or 5 days. It was one from Ebay and was for Cigar Boxes. If you get a new one. They have one called Fluckers at Pet Smart. It is designed for Reptile habitat and work well in an incubator. They are around $ 30.00 but I found that with a couple of failed batches of eggs I could have paid for a good one. The Accurite at Wallmart works for many people but test it first. You can always make adjustments to your temp to accomodate the accuracy of your therm/hygro. Its a pain but those two things are the most important part of the process.
