Good Morning!!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
This will be my first venture with chickens of my own. I have taken care of other peoples chickens when I lived in PA.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
At this moment, we do not have any chickens...need to build the coop first!

(3) What breeds do you have?
n/a right now...looking at australorps, plymouth barred rocks, rhode island reds, and golden comets.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
A man from Texas!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Horses, Kayaking, Hiking, Gardening...anything that keeps me outside.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My husband, son and I are looking forward to having a few chicken pets in our yard. My son is 4 and is very interested in animals of all sorts! During our last visit to PA he really connected with the chickens we visited. We have one horse....he is a 13 yo off the track TB named Hunter. I teach earth science to 8th graders...love it! I look forward to learning and contributing to the chicken boards:)

Welcome from SC!

I have had chickens for about 2 fun years now. I have about 28 chickens right now (approx!) I have a pen of silkies, 9 laying hens, 3 started hens, and 10 three week old Australorps.

I absolutely love those Australorps already. I had read they were quiet and gentle, but now I can see for myself that they are some of the very nicest chicks I have ever had other than my Silkies. They already eat right out of my hand, and most of them are so easily calmed, too.

It started as a homeschool project when we were studying birds...now it's a really interesting and fun hobby along with gardening, sewing, piano, reading and of course BYC which I happened to find by chance online while searching for info on chickens (of course!)

I have learned so much here on BYC & the folks are just great.

As a former New Yorker now living in PA - Welcome! Wishing you alot of luck with your future chicks! Get the chicks now and then build the coop - that's how we've done it so far...
