Months ago,a oppossum attacked the chickens. Our 6 chickens ran in all different directions. We shot the oppossum, then tried to gather the chickens to put them back in their coop. It was night and we finnally found 5 of them. We looked for the last one,Canary for a hour. We could not find her,so we just gave up,thinking she was killed by night predators. The next morning we saw her walking towards the coop like if everything was normal. I stuffed her with her favorate kind of food,Sprout grain.

After the badger attack,Goldy(our Gold Link)has been spending some nights out of the coop.

I understand everything your going through. We lost 18 baby chicks in 2 nites. On the 3rd nite 2 of my son's hide. One on the roof of the garage and the other up on the hill. All at once.. there was a coon and two red foxes. Benj was on the roof, he shot and killed the coon. The foxes ran and we haven't had any more trouble. I did put a flood light out at our coops. I wanted to put baby monitors out there. Put one in the coop and one in my bedroom. That may sound silly, but at least I could get out there to try to help. My husband's friend laughed at me for saying that. I was serious. I love my chickens. I really hope your chickens stay safe. I do a head count every night!!!!

I have a baby monitor in my coop, always have had, and you do have to get used to all the sounds they make during the night or you'll go nuts, LOL. If they are not locked up tight in the coop at night, there will be losses. Are they not in a solid-walled building at night?

We do keep the chicken cooped up at night, but lately Goldy has not been going back in at night. When we call her(we trained her to come when we make chicken noises),she won't come, and we aren't
able to chase her back in either.

I HAD OUR BABIES CHICKS IN WHAT WE ALL THOUGHT WAS A SAFE COOP. EITHER THE FOX OR THE COON TOOK THEIR MOUTH AND PULLED ON THE CHICKEN WIRE UNTIL THEY PULL THE STEEPLES OUT...ALLOWING THEM TO GO IN AND FEAST. YOU JUST REALLY NEVER KNOW HOW SAFE THE COOPS ARE. i HAVEN'T PUT ANY MORE CHICKS IN WHERE THAT HAPPENED!!
